Our Mission

ALAGO is dedicated to transforming rural communities in Alabama through education and community development. We focus on enhancing STEM education and workforce readiness while addressing issues like poverty, food insecurity, and rural infrastructure. Our goal is to create vibrant, well-rounded communities where every individual can thrive.

We believe in the power of collaborative relationships, uniting people and resources to drive meaningful improvement. Your support helps us build this brighter, interconnected future for Alabama's rural areas. Join us in this transformative mission and be part of the positive change we're making together.

Our Story

ALAGO dates its roots back to 2018 when local educators began exploring innovative ways to create real-world opportunities for students. Despite the challenges posed by the pandemic, our organization continued to evolve. As time passed, leaders from local industry and other various fields expressed similar concerns and interests.

In 2022, ALAGO initiated formalization efforts, culminating in our incorporation as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization in 2023. Our dedication to rural Alabama, and especially the I22 corridor, remain steadfast, and a dynamic team of passionate Alabamians drives us with a wealth of experience and expertise.

Our diverse group includes public educators, workforce development professionals, manufacturing leaders, nonprofit veterans, entrepreneurs, and healthcare experts. Collectively, we boast more than two centuries of experience in our respective fields, each holding deep personal connections to the rural communities we call home.

This wealth of experience and unwavering commitment equips us to approach the region’s challenges confidently, utilizing collaborative, multi-faceted efforts with a proven track record of empowering communities. We stand ready to make a meaningful difference in the lives of those we serve.

Our Values

We firmly believe in creating opportunities for access to STEM and Career Development Education to forge a bright and sustainable future for rural communities. Our unwavering commitment is rooted in recognizing the daily challenges of poverty our friends and neighbors face.

We are dedicated to a comprehensive approach that prioritizes diversity, equity, and inclusivity to combat poverty and its far-reaching consequences. Every individual should have access to pathways leading to economic mobility and achieving their personal goals.

Our mission is guided by these core values, embodied in the six pillars we stand upon, as we work tirelessly to reshape and reinvigorate the communities we serve.

STEM Learning Ecosystems

What? How? & Why?

STEM Learning Ecosystems provide the architecture for cross-sector learning, offering all young people access to STEM-rich learning environments so they can develop important skills and engagement in science, technology, engineering and math throughout preK-16.

Strong STEM Learning Ecosystems feature dynamic collaborations among schools, out-of-school time programs, STEM expert institutions (such as museums, science centers, institutions of higher education and STEM professional associations), the private sector, community-based organizations, youth and families.
